ANNUAL PAROCHIAL CHURCH MEETING
Anyone who is not currently on the Privileges Rota, but who would like to be included at the next Revision, should give their names to Fr Brian before the Annual Meeting on Sunday 26th February, stating which privilege they would like to undertake.
LENT PROGRAMME 2012
Preparation for Lent begins on Tuesday 21st February with a Quiet day in the Cathedral from 10 am to 3.30 pm. The day is titled, ‘Led by the Spirit in the Wilderness’ and will include the Eucharist with an address delivered by Bishop Mary of El Camino Real. A poster outlining the day’s full content is on display in the Meeting Room.
Bishop Michael has invited parishes to raise money through a Lent fast, for health projects in Tanzania and Sierra Leone . Envelopes for donations will be available for the beginning of Lent.
The South Cheltenham Churches are running a Lent Course across the Team and anyone wishing to participate in this York Course will have the opportunity to sign up as soon as I have further details.
At St Stephen’s I will be leading a course on the Book of Common Prayer as this year celebrates the 350th anniversary of the 1662 edition which is still very familiar with many people and used here at 8am each Sunday. This course will begin with a ‘Talk’ putting the development of the English Prayer Book into context and the following weeks will be a joint exploration/discussion/ reminiscences of the services, their statement of Anglican theology and the purpose and reasoning behind some of the less well known occasional offices that the BCP contains- you may well be startled at what some of them encourage! And as for the 39 Articles – well, you’ll have to wait and see!
The full Lent programme is now available, if would like a copy, please ask Fr Brian or one of the Churchwardens.
